There's a very powerful piece in today's New York Times about a jail in which dying prisoners receive hospice care from fellow inmates. The men who volunteer for the program provide comfort and camaraderie to the dying inmates, but many also gain something incredibly profound: a sense of redemption. John Henson, a 30-year-old in prison for murder, says that although he can't bring back the life he took, "I like to think that I'm offering life to those men that I sit with before their final days."
