When I stopped into the movie theater last night to see “The Descendants,” a new film starring George Clooney, I didn’t expect to spend the next two hours thinking about goodbyes. But saying goodbye was a huge theme throughout. I don’t want to spoil the film, so I’ll just say that the plot revolves around a woman who has sunk into a coma after a boating accident -– and the emotions she ignites while lying in her hospital bed. The movie drives home the point that relationships are messy and that goodbyes can be infused with love, tenderness, anger, disappointment, guilt, forgiveness, anguish, and plenty of unresolved questions. Enjoy the exquisite Hawaiian scenery. And notice the quilt in the very last scene....
