The Boston Globe ran a heart-grabbing story the other day about a New Hampshire man whose gifted hands -- donated after his death -- are now helping complete a man he never met.
Steven Lloyd, who loved to build and fix things like cars and decks, died from a massive brain hemorrhage last fall at age 43. When a hospital official asked his grieving wife, Jodi, about donating his forearms and hands, she said “yes.” They were transplanted and are now part of Richard Mangino, a 65-year-old from Massachusetts who lost his lower arms and legs to a horrible blood infection 10 years ago and became a prolific artist afterwards. “It’s like a bird that got its wings back,” he said after the surgery.
